EAC Indoor Pool Policies

Welcome!

To ensure a safe, clean, and inclusive environment for all, please adhere to the following policies. Use of this facility implies agreement to these rules. All rules are in place to prevent drowning and injury; we take your safety seriously.

Public Swim Etiquette & Safety

  • Lifeguard Authority: A lifeguard must be on deck and give the "OK" before anyone enters the water. Follow all lifeguard instructions immediately.
  • WAC 246-260 Compliance: Patrons must follow all rules per State Health Code. Failure to comply may result in exclusion from the facility.
  • Supervision:
    • Children ages 6 and younger must be accompanied by an adult and remain within arm’s length at all times.
    • Swimmers must be at least 4ft tall (48") to swim unaccompanied by an adult.
  • Conduct: No running, rough play, flips, tricks, or flops. Pretending to drown or holding anyone underwater will result in being asked to leave immediately.
  • Substances: No person under the influence of drugs or alcohol may use the pool.
  • More rules on the Public Swim page

Lap Swim & Lane Etiquette

  • Lane Sharing: Many swimmers prefer to divide the lane in half. To find a lane mate, look for someone with a similar swimming ability. Before entering, sit on the side of the pool and gain the other person's attention.
  • Activities: Water walking and water exercises are permitted in lap lanes.
  • Assistance: If you have trouble selecting a lane or if other swimmers are disrupting your workout, please ask a lifeguard for assistance.
  • More rules on the Lap Swim page

Swim Tests

  • Assumption of Risk: I acknowledge that pool activities involve inherent risks. I release EAC and its staff from all claims for injury or property damage, except in cases of gross negligence.
  • Swim Test Policy: I understand that going to the deeper ends of the pool may require a swim test to be performed and observed by EAC staff. Any swimmer can be subject to a swim test if swim ability is questionable. Non-approved swimmers must wear a lifejacket in the deep end or stay in the shallow end.
  • Diving Test: I understand that diving requires 9ft of water and that anyone under 18 must pass a lifeguard-conducted swim test to enter deep water.

Equipment & Toys

  • Facility Equipment: We provide kickboards, pull buoys, fins, hand fins, water dumbbells, stretch bands, porcupine balls, noodles, and foam mats.
    • Note: Foam mats are for sitting only, not for jumping.
  • Responsibility: Patrons are expected to return all equipment to its correct spot after use.
  • Personal Items:
    • Lifejackets/arm floaties must be Coast Guard Approved. Buckles must be snug and secure.
    • Masks, fins, snorkels, and personal flotation devices must be approved by the facility supervisor.
    • Toy balls must be soft plastic, rubber, or foam. Staff may ask you to put away throw toys if they pose a safety risk to others.

Health & Hygiene

  • Showers: State law requires a cleansing shower before entering the pool.
  • Attire: Everyone must be in appropriate swimwear.
  • Diapers: Diaper changing must take place in appropriate bathrooms. Non-toilet-trained children must wear reusable swim diapers with a snug-fitting cover.
  • No Glass: Glass is strictly prohibited on the deck. Eating is permitted in the lobby or patio only; please clean up after yourself.

Membership & Code of Conduct

  • Privacy & Photography: For the safety and comfort of our members, cameras and cell phones are strictly prohibited in locker rooms and restrooms. Photography or video recording on the pool deck is only permitted with prior approval from management.
  • Nonprofit Values: We are a community-focused organization. We expect all members and guests to treat staff and fellow participants with kindness and respect.
  • Inappropriate Behavior: Harassment, foul language, physical aggression, or any behavior that threatens the safety and well-being of our community will not be tolerated.
  • Membership Review & Termination: Any violation of facility policies or conduct standards is subject to immediate review by management. At the discretion of the Director, such behavior may result in:
    • A formal warning and documented incident report.
    • Temporary suspension from the facility (e.g., 30–90 days).
    • Permanent termination of membership without refund.
  • Non-Discrimination: We are committed to providing a safe space for everyone regardless of race, religion, gender, or ability.

Lost & Found Policy

  • Regular Sweeps: Staff performs a facility sweep every few days to collect abandoned items.
  • Retrieval: If you are missing an item, please call or email to set up a pickup time. We do not guarantee the protection of left-behind belongings.
  • Exclusions: For health and hygiene reasons, we do not keep socks or undergarments. These items are disposed of immediately.
  • Item Maintenance: Found clothing and towels are washed by our staff before being placed in the bin.
  • Retention Period: Items are held for [one to two] weeks. After this period, unclaimed items are donated to local charities.
  • Liability: EAC is not responsible for any personal items lost, stolen, or damaged on the premises.
