Private Lessons

What to Know

Private lessons should be set up directly with an instructor and can be worked around both yours and the instructor's schedules. Private lessons are 30 minutes long. Please call to add your name to our private lesson interest list.

Please note that we have a large demand for private lessons and a small staff. Adding your name to the private lesson list does not guarantee that we can provide you with the lesson.  In order to increase your chances of finding an instructor for your private lesson, please talk directly with an instructor that you would like to teach your lesson. If you do not hear back from an instructor in regards to your private lesson request, it is because no instructor is available to take on the private lesson.

Also, please consider that the easiest times to schedule a private lesson would be directly before or after a staff members regularly scheduled shift. The majority of the staff work weeknights from 4:30-7PM. The easiest time to set up a private lesson would either be before 4:30PM or at 7:00PM. Saturdays can also be an ideal time for private lessons at 12:30PM. You can always request a time outside of these hours and there is the possibility that we may be able to match you with an instructor.

Parent-Tot Lessons

About the Class

This class is for parent/guardians to help their child gain comfort and confidence in the water. It is a 30 minute instructor led class that goes over skills such as blowing bubbles, floating, getting in/out of pool + more!

We are currently offering this class on Saturday mornings.

We can only allow 1 parent/guardian to be in the pool with the child, although if we have a small class, 2 adults may join.

We begin this class with kiddos as young as 3 months and go to 3 years old. Each child is different so practicing outside of class can be very helpful to your child's progress. We begin our preschool lessons at 3 years old.

For any other questions, feel free to come in or give us a call and we can help you out!

Pre-testing

Pre-tests can be done Mon-Thur @ 4:15PM or @ 7PM.

Any child returning to our program from a break of 3+ months must be pre-tested before registering for classes. It is common for a child's skills to regress slightly after a long hiatus. We feel that pre-tests are the best way to ensure all children receive the best quality lesson instruction.

Tests are free and only take a few minutes to complete. There is no need to schedule one in advance, just show up a few minutes early and have children be prepared to get into the water.

If you believe your child would fit into our P1/B1 classes there is no need to pre-test them.

Please talk with your DDA case manager prior to coming to the pool. Between the client and the case manager they will decide which program is going to be best for them. If a support staff is needed, classes such as water exercise would be a good option where we will have staff in the water instead of a support staff.

Case Managers can contact: Nicole Nikula via email or phone!

What to Expect at Our Facility

Welcome!

Thank you for choosing Evergreen Aquatic Center! We will always strive to make your experience as pleasant as possible. If for any reason you are less than satisfied, please talk with the staff and let us work together to find a solution to your concerns. To ensure that your experience is as enjoyable as possible, here are some things you should know before your first class.

Our Facility

  • Children over the age of 6 use the locker room appropriate to their gender. Children older than 6 that still require assistance will be allowed to go into the locker room with their parents, however we ask that they use the changing tents.
  • When arriving at EAC, please enter and exit through the locker rooms. The hallway leading from the front office to the pool is for staff only.
  • We have recently upgraded the lockers in the locker rooms. You will need to bring your own lock in oder to use the lockers.

The Lessons

  • The first day of class: There is no need to check in when arriving. On the first day of classes, instructors will call off student’s names on the pool deck.
  • Class duration: Each class is 30 minutes long except for our Pre-Comp class which is 45 minutes long.
  • Parents do not need to get into the water with their pre-school students. Only exception is during our Parent-Tot lessons.
  • Pool temperature: Our pool temperature is kept between 82- 84 degrees and is above the recommended temperature of the American Red Cross. Most kids do fine at this temperature, but small children may get cold after 30 minutes in the pool. Rash guards and wet suits help kids keep warm.

Students and Learning

  • Crying Students: Beginner students, especially those in the P1 class do cry sometimes. Our instructors are prepared to deal with crying students, attendance is still encouraged. We recommend children attend class each day and remain with their teacher through the duration of the lesson. Children often do better when the parent distances themselves farther away from their child and it is important for learning that students bond with their teacher. We ask all parents to sit on the bleachers, at a comfortable distance away from their child(ren).
  • Learning Time: Swimming takes time to learn! Students may take several months to complete each level before moving on to the next one. We focus on correct technique in our swimming lesson program and this takes time to master.
  • Free Public Swims: All students enrolled in the current session of lessons may attend our public swim times for free. We encourage families to take advantage of this so that children may get extra practice time and learn to have fun in the water. Parents do need to pay for themselves and children under the age of 6 must be accompanied by an adult.

Parents and Instructors

  • Talking with your instructor: Communication between parents and instructors is encouraged. Feel free to gain the attention of your instructor at the beginning and end of classes to ask any questions.
  • Instructor advice: You know your child better than anyone. If you have any helpful advice about your child for your instructor, feel free to tell them.

Refunds and Credits

  • As a general rule refunds will not be given. If you are unsatisfied with your child's class or instructor, please talk to the front desk staff and we can switch your child into a different class if there is room available. If no room is available, we will issue credits to be used towards a future session of lessons.
  • Evergreen Community Aquatic Center is not responsible for any classes the student may miss and will not pro-rate the class fee for a missed class.
  • If you must cancel your class for any reason a credit will be issued that can be used towards a future session of lessons. All cancelations must be made 48 hours in advance.
  • No credits or refunds will be issued for classes that have already been missed or that were made after the 48-hour point. In the rare case that a refund is issued a $5 processing fee will be deducted from the total cost of classes.
  • Make-up classes cannot be offered.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask. We are happy to help in any way we can. Enjoy your classes!
