Lifeguarding Courses

How much do lifeguard classes cost?

Classes cost $150 payable to EAC.

What skills do I have to know before I can join a lifeguard class?

Students must be able to demonstrate swimming competency by swimming 300yds in both freestyle and breaststroke, retrieve an object off of the bottom of the pool in a depth of 10ft, and tread water for 2 minutes. Those who are unable to complete the pre-reqs will not be able to take the course and will be refunded their money.

How old do I have to be to join a class?

You must be 15 years old before the last day of class. Age verification is required in the form of a state issued id card or a birth certificate.

Are lessons done in person or online?

Both! This course will be a blended online course. Students can view lessons online here.

Note: If you have created an account through the American Red Cross in the past, you will need to do it again. Printed verification that lessons have been completed will be required, and due on the first day of class.

Do I have to purchase any materials?

No, CPR masks and first aid supplies will be provided. A lifeguard manual is required which you may purchase a hard copy here, or you can download a PDF here for free.

Swimming Lessons

When can I sign up for swim classes?

You can sign up for the current month of lessons at any time during the month as long as there is still space available for your child. We typically open registration for the public on the 2nd to last Friday of each month.

How much do lessons cost?

We charge $9.00 per class, but you would pay for the entire month of classes.

Example: If you sign up for classes on M/W and there are 4 Mondays and 5 Wednesdays, that would total out to be 9 classes. $9.00 multiplied by 9 classes would be $81.00.

Each month is a little different based on what the month looks like.

Do you offer any discounts?

We do offer a scholarship for any child with a Medicaid card from DSHS is eligible for our scholarship. With the scholarship, you would only pay $5 per class for each child. Just bring your card in when you register for classes and we can provide you with the scholarship.

How long is each class?

Our classes are 30 minutes long. The only exception is our Pre-Composition class and that is 45 minutes.

How old does my child need to be for swimming lessons?

Our preschool classes are for children between the ages of 3 and 5. Our beginner classes are for children between the ages of 6 and 14. We also offer parent-tot class for children between the ages of 6 months and 3 years old.

Do I need to get in the water with my child?

No. Only our parent-tot classes require a parent in the water with their child.

Do you offer adult swimming lessons?

Yes. We offer them typically during the week, for ages 15 and up.

Do you offer women’s only swimming lessons?

No, but we do offer women only swimming times. Our schedule will have the current times and days. We also offer men's only swim!

How long will it take me/my child to learn how to swim?

Each individual is completely different! Learning how to swim takes time. You/your child's progress will depend on your goals, comfort in the water, and a variety of other factors. You shouldn't be surprised if your child is in the same level for 6 months to a year. In our program we emphasize correct technique in combination with comfort and endurance in the water. Mastering this combination takes time.

My child has taken swimming lessons somewhere else and I am not sure what level they belong in.

No worries! Bring your child in for a pre-test and we can tell you what level they should go into. These test are free and take less than 5 minutes. We usually do these at 4:15pm/7:00pm, Monday-Thursday, or 10:15am/12:30pm, Saturdays. If these times don't work for you, give us a call and we may be able to set something up outside of that.

I want to sign my kid up for the next month, but I don't know what level to sign them up for.

Report cards are handed out the second to last class of the month. Your child's report card will list all the skills that are assessed and taught. Skills that your child has shown profiencency in will be checked. If you want to know early if your child has passed, please ask their instructor after class. If the instructor is unavailable, please ask management.

Water Exercise

Do I need to know how to swim to take a water exercise class?

Nope! Our water exercise classes are in both in either the deep or shallow end of the pool. No swimming required!

How do I sign up for water exercise classes?

There is no need to sign up for our water exercise classes. Your first visit is free, so come on in and check it out completely risk free. All classes are offered on a drop in basis.

How much do exercise classes cost?

Your first visit is free! After that you can drop in for either $7 for adults or $6 for seniors. Otherwise you can purchase a punch card that is good for 10 visits. Adult punch cards are $55 and senior punch cards are $45.

Our starting age is 55 to get the senior rate.

I haven't worked out in years, have a disability, or am afraid of the water. Can I take the classes?

Yes! Workouts in the water are great for anyone and everyone. Our instructors are flexible and understanding of your needs. We are not here to be drill sergeants, but are here to support your exercise goals. Classes are completely self paced and instructors will provide alternative exercises to those who are unable to do all of the moves in class. Workouts in the water are gentle on the body making it a perfect option for those who are new to exercising or are recovering from injuries (Always consult your doctor before joining a class.)

Please talk with your DDA case manager prior to coming to the pool. Between the client and the case manager they will decide which program is going to be best for them. If a support staff is needed, classes such as water exercise would be a good option where we will have staff in the water instead of a support staff.
