Lifeguarding Courses
Evergreen Aquatic Center is proud to offer American Red Cross lifeguard courses. We offer these classes in coordination with Highline School District breaks. We typically offer classes over winter, spring, & summer vacations.

Requirements
We offer lifeguard classes every other season for those who are age 15+. These classes are blended learning with an online portion and instructor-led classroom sessions. Courses are $150.00
To begin this class, you must first pass the prerequisites, which include:
- 300yrd continuous swim with rhythmic and controlled breathing. Swimmers may use freestyle, breast stroke or a combination of both. Backstroke and side swimming are not allowed. Goggles may be used.
- 2 minute treading water with no hands. Swimmers may have their hands in their armpits or above the water.
- Retrieving a 10 pound brick from our 10ft deep pool. Starting in the shallow end, students must swim to the deep end and identify the brick. Using the surface dive, feet-first, or head-first method, swimmers will bring the brick to the surface and swim on their backs to the shallow end.

You must be 15 years old before the last day of class. Age verification is required in either a state issued ID card or a birth certificate.
There will be reading assignments for you to do at home and there will be in person practice sessions.
The lessons and readings are online through the American Red Cross, practicing skills and tests are in-person. Students can view online lessons here. Printed verification of completed lessons is required and due on the first day of class.
Note: If you have an American Red Cross account, you may need to update or re-create an account.
LG certs are for getting lifeguard certified while LGI is a cert for teaching lifeguarding courses.
